Our class President and GC President, Mr. Dylan Stoltzfus Looks Back at Our Journey

Dylan is from Kernersville, NC studying mechanical engineering with a minor in applied math. He is a four-year scholar with the Army Department as well as the Ranger Challenge Platoon Leader and the India Company First Platoon Lt. He will be commissioning in the Army as an Infantry Officer and will report to Fort Benning, Georgia on June 3rd. As the GC president he was put in many difficult positions throughout his time. Fourth- and Third-Class year the name of the game was learning how the GC operates and runs through the eyes of the first, second, and third classmen. Third class year, As you start to get leadership in companies as well as elect your honor court members, Making connections with those people is vital. "Come 2nd class year, you really start to see what 1st class year is like and how you want to run it." He tells me. You start going to all the events, (GC trials, RDC Workouts, etc.) and you have Ring Figure which is a lot of fun to be involved with. After that, comes everyone getting leadership positions for First Class year and you start planning your vision for that year. What will you want to do differently, and what will you want to keep the same. As GC president, you really put in the work representing your class. It teaches you how to work with different people, talk with different people, and how to support them. Also, it teaches you how to have those hard conversations. "When you look at the GC Tuesday Night trials, it's a great opportunity to let the corps know that they can trust you. Whether it was someone not representing VMI or being disrespectful to others, its public. It lets people know that there is an avenue that the common cadet can go through." "Tuesday Night trials are actually the smallest thing we do. We do a lot of studying from behind the scene and don't get a lot of recognition. Mr. Stoltzfus said that he would have liked to have had all public, no private. He thinks it's necessary to have it public. COVID didn't interfere with OGA or CEA, the main thing was RDC workouts and its timeline. The class of 2024 never had a rifle run and the 21-class leadership was very disappointed with strain night. However, Meet Your Dyke Night went well as well as Rat Bible issue. What he hated the most was 'Admin Week'. It gave the rats time to get comfortable and become complacent and there are a lot of commandant's staff who like that!! He said, "It will tear this place apart if it continues and it is not necessary. Having to deal with continuous change was difficult. "The biggest was having our rats taken away. That was huge and you see how no one really has a big relationship with their rats and it will be a characteristic of our culture as a class. You'll see 22 and 23 will be able to be normal, but it will take a long time for our dykeline to see how to be dykes." We couldn't be dykes. "We wanted to say and do so many things but both were having to go through different changes which got in the way of that. It'll probably take about six years to figure everything out." "I was very happy with going home and coming back, it was like a restart. we had more RDC workouts than any other class in recent history even with reduced time. I was happy with the operations after we came back, we wanted the ratline to be pushed back but it didn't happen with negotiations with sports so we were pretty pissed but it turned out well because we were able to get everything in." "I was very happy with resurrection week; our class was very mature and com staff was impressed." "It is crazy how time has flown since breakout."
